What can I say about The In Key Dropouts? That they were tightest and most exuberant 3-piece punk/ska band to ever come out of Utah? That for 3 teens, they were too far ahead of themselves as songwriters, musicians, and lyricists - and too humble about their abilities? That Utah ska doesn't support hornlessness? That they wrote some of the best minute-long-songs I've ever heard? That I love their catchy synthesis of Minor Threat, Common Rider, and The Meatmen? Aye, and aye, and aye.
This album was recorded and mixed in roughly one week in the rumpus room of Skunkhouse Studios sometime around 2009, during an era of Baby Bush polemics and unbridled wine consumption. There was a lot of musical cross-pollination happening at the time, and it was a creative year for Salt Lake music in general - partially motivated by the fact that most of us were doing all of it for free with a lot of love in our hearts.
Interesting studio facts: we didn't have enough inputs to track toms at the same time as the rest of the drums, so all of the tom fills were spliced in during an overdub pass; it makes for an interesting production value.
In Key - wherever you are and whatever you're doing - thanks for writing one of my favorite albums of all time and letting me record it.
